I generally don’t bake diddly squat before coffee–even in culinary school when I was scheduled for the breakfast shift and had to be up and in the kitchen at four-thirty in the morning, I had coffee before going near an oven.

For some reason, I can cook adequately BC (before coffee), but baking will reduce me to a twitching pile of nerve endings sans caffiene.

This is probably because I am more of a natural cook than an instinctive baker. Cooking, I can do on autopilot, while baking takes effort.
