My Free Tomato Culture

Barbara Fisher thinks food is all about the tomatos. I happen to agree with her for red look so good on the plate and food is all about presentation, is it not? You might want to check out her site for some really great tomato recipes!

Hey, Mary--another favorite summer dish of mine is gazpacho--the cold soup of Spain. I think of it as somewhere between salsa, salad and soup--and I cannot have it without cucumbers. Which means I am the only one eating it, because no matter what I do with them, Zak hates cucumbers.

Maybe Morganna will like them?

Ladi--I'd die without those dishes! I feel your pain. Too bad I can't mail you something!

Mexican/Central American/Caribbean food is what I *really* miss about being back home in the States. The things I would do right now for a big bowl of salsa (minus cilantro :p ), a bag full of tortilla chips, a cheesy quesadilla, and a big honking burrito.

Oh, Salsa!

That's exactly what I made yesterday with my pile of veggies that I got at the farmer's market on Saturday. I was even thinking of posting the recipe. Mine is much less tomato-filled. Disappointing (as I love the tomatos!) but interesting and still quite tasty. Our market didn't have many good looking tomatos this past weekend, so mine has just a few tomatos (two from the plant in my backyard) and a variety of interesting peppers and even a cucumber!

Perhaps we're a few weeks behind being farther north, but I'm definitely going to try your recipe once the tomatos make a full-fledged appearance in the markets up here.

I was even thinking of writing a poem about salsa - I love it so much!
