Some culinary items are just nasty to clean up, Lindy. Your story about the pomegranate molasses reminds me of how one our cats managed to knock a cesaer salad dressing bottle off the counter in a kitchenette such that it broke on the 3 foot strip of vinyl flooring, but the dressing went flying off into the carpet in the living room.

He was extremely talented, since we had set the dressing all the way on the back of the counter up against the wall.

That was many years ago.

Boy did that rug smell...

Hey, Judith! How are you?

Maple syrup? I will have to try it. We have some that is even local here in Athens County!

I think your salad sensibility is lovely and like the sound of your round of combinations. I also like the idea of a bit of pomegranite molasses in the dressing.

I haven't actually had any in the house since I dropped a bottle of it, breaking it into smithreens on the tile kitchen floor, and splashing iteverywhere. I have never cleaned up any food mess so dreadful. Glass, goo, dark and sticky, all mixed together, with cats eager to join in and injure themselves.

Perhaps I have gotten over it now, and can handle buying another bottle!

Hey, Meg!

I want to try the fried chevre again, only this time with some panko instead of the matzoh. Panko was my first choice, and I knew I had some, but could not find it. As it was, I think that the matzoh was actually a better choice to go with all the other foods on the menu.

It really is a simple thing--that is why there isn't even a formally written-out recipe. It is as easy as it sounds, but the flavor and texture change is something quite special.

I admit to being a bit constrained in my salad making by what Zak and Morganna will eat--she, especially is not fond of salads. I think, however, after the success of this salad, that I will just go back to my practice of making salad several times a week, and Zak and I will eat it. If she doesn't want it--then she needn't eat it.

She can munch on raw carrots or some such instead.

I had intended roasted beets to go into the salad instead of the pomegranate seeds, but the beets I bought at the grocery store, after being roasted tasted like--well, like nothing, really. Hence the last minute substitution of pomegranate, which, in looking back, was probably a better choice.

Barbara, I don't know that I have ever tried breading a chèvre myself but your recipe reminded me of a wonderful salad I had once (no, actually, twice - ordered it two nights running) in the Cévennes. It featured a local goat cheese breaded with chestnut crumbs and lightly fried. It was DELICIOUS. Thanks for reminding me of it - going to have to try to reproduce it now. And thanks for the wonderful recipe and reflections on salads. I think a really good salad is seriously under-rated. Congratulations on such a lovely one!
