Hello, Biscuit Girl Barbara--I think I am odd in that I took to bitter melon right away. Not many people do. But, I have also watched Zak, who at first was utterly repulsed by its flavor, slowly begin to like it to the point where he asks for it now, and if we see it at the farmer's market, he nudges me to buy it.

It really is a very odd flavor--it isn't just straight up bitter, once you get used to it. It is complex. One thing--I have read that pregnant womanshould not eat it because it stimulates uterine contractions--but I don't know how true that is.

Your mention of bitter melon got my curiosity going so we tried it the other night when we ate at Joe's Noodle House here in the DC area.

You're right about it being bitter. And while none of us warmed up to the dish that night, it is something I want to try again. It has a taste like nothing I've eaten before.

Thanks, Rokh!

Kalyn--yeah, even on a low carb diet homemade noodles are hard to turn down. Especially since it is rude to turn down what is made especially for us, right?

(Besides, one plate of them won't ruin your diet plan...it is just hard to exercise restraint with just one portion--as I well know.)

My mom used to make homemade chicken and noodles and we called them "fat noodles". They were amazing. Even now that I'm not really eating white flour, I wouldn't be able to turn them down if someone made them for me.
