Lindy--I don't know why it is not a best-seller. It is a gorgeous little book.

Sher--I think a book club would have great fun discussing this--especially if you can get together and cook the recipes from the book. (Wouldn't that make a great blog post?)

Ashwini--I have three more new Indian cookbooks to review. You are so going to be cranky with me, aren't you? ;-)

Thank you for the information on the wee gherkins. I might try the goan stir fry--that sounds good and quick for lunch for me.

Shirley--Try Dian Abu Jaber's memoir, The Language of Baklava. I haven't read it yet, but I have heard nothing but good of it.

I love this book too. Are you aware of similar books written by Narayan or other writers?

You must absolutely STOP putting up any more reviews. I am going to have to break the bank soon :-)
Seriously thanks for sharing your knowledge. Must buy it now.
Heres a link to my post on gherkin - http://food-forthought.blogspot.com/2006/02/everything-tastes-better-with-cashews.html
A note though - Its a Goan stir fry, not the usual vegetable preparation of India (ie. no garam masala).
And I just realised my mistake. Gherkin = tondli in Marathi and tindora in Hindi (I wrote tinda in my earlier comment.
Have you tuned out completely by now?!!

Thank you for telling us about this book. From your description, it's the type of book I like to read. I'll also recommend it to my book club.
