In The Home Stretch

Yes, those are our two daughters, happy to be together this weekend just past.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who has offered support, kind words, loving emails, and comments here on my blog. The offers of crash space and home cooked meals from the Columbus contingent of the food blogging community blew me away, even though I never got a real chance to take anyone up on them.

You see, about the time that those offers came in, the pediatricians upped the amount of breastfeedings that Kat was to recieve, so we ended up spending a great deal of time each day at the hospital, and travelling back and forth from the hotel to the hospital. So, while I would have loved to meet up with some of you generous Columbus folks, we just couldn’t manage to get around to scheduling any sort of social activity.

Heck, by the time we came trundling back to the hotel at night, I was usually too tired to update here.

But, I am here, now, taking some moments to let folks know that Kat is eating all of her food by mouth, from either the bottle or breast, and she is GAINING WEIGHT! She now looks like a newborn, not a preemie, and acts like one, too, with a few little differences.

And, according to the nurses and pediatricians, they are going to be sending her home in the very near future, barring unforseen circumstances.

So, look for a post soon, with pictures taken in Kat’s new home, with the joyful news that the family is all together again: Mom, Dad, big sister, little sister, felines and the canine!

Until then, thank you all once again–every word you all posted meant and means a great deal to me.

  6. Update on Barbara’s update: Kat has gained the weight necessary for discharge, and they’re coming home today. I got a call from Zak at 9AM this morning announcing the news.

Other than that, I know nothing else. But fairly soon, we should be getting regular updates from Barbara, and sometime soon after, I’d imagine that Barbara will be returning you to your regularly scheduled food blog entries.

Congratulations Barbara! In my moving to Seattle hungama, I haven’t been doing much blog hopping. Trying to catch up with the news. I am glad to hear that Kat is doing well and you are back to home with the baby.

    Best wishes,

  14. That’s so cool she’s coming home! Reading your story makes me remember mine (25 years ago) of my preemie - at 28 weeks, 2 lbs. 4 oz. - who is a nice big 25-year-old. Kat looks beautiful and I bet her big sister is so proud!

  19. Ha.
They put the cute picture up.
In the second picture Zak took I’m grinning like an evil goblin and look like I’m about to eat the baby.
    Love
    Morganna
    PS
Everyone thank Bryian for helping dispose of a dead dog.
I will be making him a cake shortly.

  23. I was hoping to see you and the baby were home next time I checked your site. And now you are. This is wonderful! Neonatal units try hard, but being in your own home feels so much better.
