Kristi--right before the recipe, I noted that if you don't have a pressure cooker, for you to follow the recipe as if you were making a conventional stew in a conventional stew pot. Cook it as written, but just cook it longer. Add the aromatics, mushrooms and meat first, cook until the meat is fork tender, then add the vegetables and cook until they are fork tender, and then add the roux and fresh herbs and all is done!

Steph--there is nothing wrong with having potato mash on the side of a stew! In fact, it is lovely! Go for it--whatever works for you!

Nirah--if you try my stew, come back and let me know how it worked for you.

Stewpot cooking is something that is always great to fall back on, especially in the winter and fall.

Lucette! I am glad to be back!

Welcome back! :)

I love stews too! Thanks for the recipe - sounds like you guys had a great time filling in your tummies with good comforting food.

I made my first stew a year ago when I was twenty, and as you said, the ingredients are humble, yet when put together, gives you a satisfaction like no other.

I'll definitely give yours a try.

See you around. :)

Glad you're back... glad all is well... don't mean to be selfish, but my mid-morning cup of tea isn't the same without your posts

I love the recipe, but can't have potatoes cooked in my stews! Pots in the stew is the traditional way to cook them in Lancashire, where I grew up, but my grandmother never did this as her mother was from Yorkshire, where, I believe, this practice is frowned on! Potatoes (mashed or boiled or baked) are served alongside the stew - the way I prefer. Inspired by your pre-baby freezer meals, I'll be having a shin beef and mushroom stew I prepared earlier for my lunch :)
