Weekend Kat and Kitten Blogging: Big Games
Morganna loves being a big sister. That is because Big Sister gets to do all the fun things, like teaching Kat how to play with kittens.
From the time Kat could sit up on her own, we have been able to entertain her for long periods of time by using the magical feather wands to entice the cats into great death-defying leaps, pounces, jumps and twirling maneuvers which would make a Sufi dizzy. Kat’s attention span for such play was amazing–once I had her watching while Gummitch, Grimmy, Tatter and Jack all took turns attacking the feather wand while I made it bounce, wriggle and flutter enticingly.
Well, Morganna has taken it a step farther, and has taught Kat how to play with Cordelia, using the feather wand.
As you can see, at first, Cordelia is unsure, and stalks about curiously, wondering exactly what Kat has in mind for her to do as she waves the feathers around in a somewhat clumsy, yet, still entertaining way.
Of course, it did not take long for Cordelia to take the bait, so generously offered by Kat. And the pouncing, jumping and dashing commenced, along with the delighted giggles and chortles from Kat.
They played for a good ten minutes together, while I tried desperately to catch as much action as possible with my somewhat slow digital camera! I missed most of the daring leaps and twisting gymnastic maneuvers from the kitten, but I did manage to capture some of the delighted grins of Kat.
Which made me happy.
And when Morganna saw the pictures, she was thrilled and proud, because she was the first person to teach Kat how to play with the kitties just like a big girl.
How did it all end?
Well, eventually, Cordelia wrested the wand away from Kat and trotted off, dragging it away behind her, after a long romp. Cordelia hid the feathers under the dining room table, and then dashed back to curl up on the couch with Kat and I while nursed her.
Kat dropped off for her afternoon nap and Cordelia climbed up on my lap next to Kat to take her own little nap, and they slept back to back, Kat smiling and Cordelia purring.
Note: For those who really like Kat’s tie dyed onesie–it came from Wild Child Tie Dye. Jodi makes the best tie dye kids stuff, ever.

The tie-dye totally works.
A soon-to-be mother who happens to be my English student (she’s Japanese) asked me if I knew of any Japanese-style baby food recipes. I don’t, but I thought you might (or that you’d have some good ideas). My concern is that many Japanese foods are heavy on the salt (umeboshi, soy sauce, etc) or have live cultures in them (natto). Do you have any advice I can offer her?
