Weekend Kat Blogging: Kat Napping

Zak caught the Kat and the Kitten, stretched out, asleep on the couch, after a full afternoon of playing.

Cordelia and Kat will seek each other out for long play sessions, and they share each other’s toys equally, and improvise toys out of found objects, such as Kat’s new pair of high-top Converses.

And then, when they are tired and ready for a nap, Kat crawls up into my lap or Zak’s, and Cordelia cuddles up next to us. Zak has found that once Kat is really well and truly deeply asleep, he can lay her down–I am not so lucky, yet.

Here you can see Cordelia stretched out over one of Kat’s favorite bits of reading material–an art book called Kittens in Japan by photographer Atsuki Sumida. It features kittens in various settings in Japan, from the traditional to the modern, all in poses meant to make them as cute as possible. There are kittens helping artisans with traditional crafts, kittens at a tempura stall, kittens playing among the accouterments of a woman’s kimono, kittens at a hot spring, kittens walking along a pedestrian street in Tokyo, and kittens overlooking the modern high rises of that same city.

Even though it is stored among our art books, Kat removes it from the shelf and brings it to us to read to her and leaf through with her. She loves the pictures of the kittens and the scenery, and has a great deal of fun pointing to the kitten in each photograph.

At this point, I think that even thought we purchased the book years before we even dreamed of Kat, it has become “her” book.

And that is fine with me.
