Weekend Kat Blogging: On The Go!
Kat is really liking her velocipede. (I love calling it that. Such a fun, underused word.)
She has a circuit she travels now–from the foyer to the dining room, through to the kitchen, then down the back hallway and round to the foyer and back again. Sometimes she travels it forwards, and sometimes backwards, and sometimes, she takes side trips, like around and around the dining room table, or, as shown here, to stare at her reflection in the dishwasher and make faces.
This week, she learned how to get off the velocipede safely on her own. She swings one leg over, and sits on it sidesaddle for a moment, then slides that foot down to the floor, and lands with a plop on her backside, a proud grin on her face.
The next step, of course, is learning how to get on her velocipede by herself. And she is well on her way, what with all the pulling herself up to stand and cruising around furniture she is doing, while holding on, shuffling one foot in front of the other.
But for now, Zak, Morganna and I have to pick Kat up and put her in the seat of the velocipede, which is very exciting to her. We know this because she kicks her legs like a frog as we walk her towards her little four-wheeled conveyance and giggles like a maniacal goblin, her face plastered with a Cheshire cat grin.
She has even learned to go pretty fast on it, which makes big sister Morganna proud.
“That’s how I can tell she’s my sister,” Morganna declares. “She may not be slamming it into walls at high speed (a favorite Morganna game when she was Kat’s age), but when she picks up speed she gets that crazy giggle and high pitched squeal. That’s just like I was.”
It is all in a day’s work for a growing sixteen month old baby.
And it is so exciting and fun to watch!
