Weekend Kat Blogging: The Girl Grows Curls!

When Kat was born, other than the fact that she was small, the first thing we noticed was the curly red hair

After her hair dried, however, the curls fell out, and instead, her hair looked quite like mine used to be: stick straight. Everyone was a little sad about this, because most of the family had been hoping she would have hair like her Daddy–long, loose ringlet curls. (Zak, had he been born in the 17th century, would not have had to wear a wig–he’d just have needed to let his hair grow into the perfect ringlets favored at the time.)

But, for a year or so, her hair just seemed to stay still–short and straight, though still red. It thickened, to be certain, but didn’t seem to grow much in length.

Finally, her hair has started growing longer, and we have learned that her hair is just like Zak’s–his hair, when very short, appears straight. It is only when it is grown out for several inches, that the curls appear.

As you can see of this photograph of the back of Kat’s head, the ringlets have started to sprout, primarily at the nape of her neck, although they are also cropping up out of the crown of her head. They are quite silly, but very cute, and I look forward to seeing how they further develop over time.

She is also getting much better at standing. Here, you can see her barely touching the coffee table as she balances on her feet. She isn’t gripping the table, or putting weight on it, but instead is just to slightly steady herself.

She now will turn around from the table, let go of it and take hold of the couch, meaning she is, for a split second, standing on her own, without holding on to anything–a crucial step down the path toward walking independently.

I can’t wait!

  1. “She now will turn around from the table, let go of it and take hold of the couch, meaning she is, for a split second, standing on her own,”

When applied to my own Critter I called this split second “not yet fallen down.”

  2. She remains the benchmark of baby. I show her photos to my sons who (because I have no daughters myself) are expected to produce at least one red-haired curly-headed daughter.

    Thanks for sharing.

  3. She just looks adorable–and if she indeed gets the Zak hair, she will have dodged a genetic bullet The Fisher Hair, which you and I both have, Barb. Sounds like your time at the resteraunt is really fruitful. I intend to eat there when we’re next in town.

    Love, Judy
