I thing I had this tasty Sumakiyah dish in a Arab restaurant in eastern Jerusalem. However I pick the Sumac during Fall, dry it, grind it and mix it along with other ingredients for the Zaatar spice.

Roxanne, your baking ventures sound like you have had fun, and I hope that they lead to good things for you in the job department! I am so glad you found my recipes so inspirational, and I hope you have fun playing with them and making them your own.

Diane--I am glad to have inspired you to go back to your cookbooks and explorations. I am glad to be doing my own research and finding such great recipes and stories along the way.

Roxanne--very few Middle Eastern restaurants really encompass the breadth and depth of the cuisine fully. It is much the same with many other cuisines, of course--most traditional recipes are not well represented. Which is a shame, but if it inspires us to go forth and do our own explorations and cooking, all the better!

Maninas--if you click on my photos, you will get a larger version! I guess I should mention that to folks, but it is nice to see all the detail, while still not worrying about the loading speed of the blog. I am always happy, though when people praise my photographs--I am primarily a writer, but I have been a hobby photographer my whole life, so it is good when I get it right!

Sumac on fries! Oh, I am so there!

I want to try the sumac drink, myself. It sounds divine!

I have been seduced.

By this blog! I'm a goner. I wished just one Middle Eastern restaurant in town dared to make stuff like this. We have some good restaurants, but they all make the same dishes--over and over again. I long, long, long for something different.

I ordered the book where you mentioned you got this recipe, and am looking forward to cooking from it. Especially when I get my lamb harvest in the fall.

On another note. I have blogged on the Aztec brownies I made on Monday. You should find the changes I made interesting. Let me know what you think!

I also had a flash of inspiration in regards to your Aphrodite Cakes--specifically about using the cookie base itself in another preparation. Hopefully I'll have a chance to play around with it sometime this week.
