Midweek Kat Blogging: First Steps and Lots of Words!

Not only has Kat been eating fresh strawberries with great glee today, she also took her first several unassisted steps, out in her garden, while she was playing amid the pea gravel and rocks!

Yesterday, she helped me plant sunflower seeds, and today, while I was planting echinacea, monarda and galliarda, morning glories and nasturtiums, Kat played on the gravel path next to the rose bed. Zak was watching her, and she started standing up on her own, with fists full of gravel. She couldn’t hold onto the rock retaining wall to steady herself, so she took unassisted steps–and instead of falling, she lowered herself down to the ground every time in a very controlled sit.

She was so excited–her mouth opened with a big grin–an expression similar to the one in the photograph above–and she crowed with joy!

In other news, we actually sat down and figured out how many words Kat can say, and it turns out that she can say over 30 words, and she understands many, many more.

She is a little sad this evening, though, because little Zoe went home today with her mother, and she misses her. She asks about her now and then.

I can’t wait until they visit again.

After this post, look for a continuation of your regularly scheduled food blog in the next few days.

I was just too excited to not tell you about the first few steps!
