Artcargirl--I bet I could teach you how to sew. I used to think I couldn't sew either, but look at me now!

Kat is so into those skirts--when she saw the second one, it was first thing in the morning, because I finished it after she went to bed. She saw it, grabbed it, hugged it and squealed and giggled and danced around.

It was really, really cute, and it made me really happy to have spent the few hours it took to make it for her.

Thanks Barbara!

I agree that patterns are like recipes...I'm forever tweaking them!

Sure, Zoe--they are really easy. 30 charm squares--the top row is seven, the next is ten, and the last is thirteen. If your girl is bigger than Kat, you can add another 14 squares in a fourth row.

Gather the tops of the second and third rows--and the fourth if you use one--and attach them to the bottom of the row above. Then, I sew on the rickrack and do the hem--and then I make the casing for the 3/4" elastic, then I sew up the back seam, and then put in the elastic and sew up the casing.

It is simple--oh, and I use 1/2" seams in everything.

I got the idea from a pattern--I changed it, of course. Patterns are like recipes for me--guidelines.
