Weekend Cat Blogging: The Birthday Girl and Cat
Today, we have much to do. The house needs some more cleaning (though we did a good bit of that yesterday) and I have doughs to make and fillings and sauces to assemble and create, and presents to wrap.
Tomorrow is Morganna’s birthday, in addition to being the first day of the Lunar New Year celebration.
She wanted a dim sum feast for her birthday, and in lieu of birthday cake, she wanted scallion pancakes and sweet bean paste buns.
So…that is what I am making.
I think around twenty people are invited to show up; I have to go send email out and think of a parking strategy.
Pictures of the food and festivities tomorrow will be forthcoming.
Wish us luck!
Our picture today features Morganna, on the couch reading, with her cat, Lennier cuddling in a most undignified fashion.

And what a book to be reading, especially considering Lennier’s original name!
GAH!
Yes, parking will be interesting, especially as Heather and I are coming separately…

Happy Birthday Morganna. Dim sum sounds yummy, how I wish I could come too.
Lots of love and smooches for the birthday girl.

Happy Birthday Morganna! I hope the Dim Sum Fest is as wonderful as expected (and, knowing your mom, possibly more). I hope we get to meet some day soon!

Oh lord, she looks so much like you at that age that it’s scareeee 😀
I mean, she is very pretty, but looking at that picture I thought it was you, and then I remember that I don’t look like that any more either. (Someday I should scan all my old pictures, I still have pictures of the oathtaking ceremonies and the like…)

Thank you everyone!
Yeah, I thought that the book she was reading was appropros, Dan!
Boo, I would love to have you!
Kate–she loves dim sum–and has been eating it since she was around a year and some months old from back when I worked at China Garden. Lo used to make treats for us–though we didn’t know they were dim sum then, and Morganna got to taste them sometimes. She was really cute when she was eating eating turnip cake and the like.
Gong hay fat choi, Kross-eyed-kitty!
Lennier’s half siamese and half shorthair and all silly! And yes, he’s a beauty, and is also one of the most good-natured kitties in the world.
Thank you, Ilva!
Hadar–I hope we do well! Its a lot of work!
Azalais–she does look a lot like me–but what is scarier–is when she answers the phone, most people cannot tell us apart. Her vocal timbre is high-pitched than mine, but the little mics on the phone negates that, such that everyone has a problem telling us apart.
(I have to admit to fear of your old pictures–equal parts fear and wonder!)

Happy Birthday! What a great idea for a birthday dinner. And you know it’s always better to read when you have help.

Gong hay fat choy, Rose! On Saturday, when Tom, Dan and I went to the Chinese market here in town to pick up provisions for the party the next day, there was a new girl helping out–probably because it was crazy busy. I wished her a happy new year in Cantonese, and she blinked and looked at me, and then Tom wished her a happy new year in Mandarin, and she laughed and said, “With you, we have a choice of languages!” She then said happy new year back in Mandarin, and we went merrily on our way home, laden with goodies.
Hey, Lindy–it was a good birthday, and she was very happy. The cats all hid until most folks were gone. Then Lennier came down and cuddled with all who were left. He is such a happy cat.
Riana–Lucky is super lucky! Duck neck! Mmmm.
